What: R Controlled vowels are the vowels a, e, i, o, and u that are influenced by the letter "r". There are six sounds created by "r" influenced vowels. There are 13 vowel patterns that create the six sounds.
Why: Since R Controlled vowels make up 8% of single syllable words and have six sounds and thirteen different vowel patterns, they have to have a special focus.
